Who we are
Sustainable & Greener World (SGW) is a fully registered NGO or non-profit, headquartered in Kampala, Uganda, and is epitomized by a slogan of “Enhancing Lives and Nature”. SGW was established in 2016 by a group of ten (10) committed youths, who shared a common motive of safeguarding the environment and improving people’s livelihoods, especially in rural areas of Uganda. The Organization was incorporated in 2017 and officially registered with Ugandan NGO Board in 2021, and it has implemented projects that have assuaged and enhanced the populace and bettered the environment. SGW focuses on relief, innovations and research, all pertinent to food security, water, energy, environment (climate change), health and safety, education and entrepreneurship, with a view of contributing to solving societal challenges and boosting sustainability and resilience.

Mission
To promote ecological management of natural resources, strengthen resilience and enhance livelihoods through impactful innovative solutions, sustainable development, empowerments and strategic partnerships.

Objectives

In furtherance of the mentioned vision and mission, the objectives for which the Organisation was established include:

  1. To advocate for environmental protection and sustainable management of natural resources.

  2. To heighten research in the fields of environment, water, energy, food security, entrepreneurship, health and other relevant fields at various levels of learning for the benefit of the environment and society.

  3. To strengthen the resilience of individuals and communities through local innovative solutions by partnering with the public, universities, other relevant research institutions, government, related NGOs, or other organizations.

  4. To contribute towards the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are in line with the Organization’s objects.

  5. To enhance livelihoods of the people through boosting entrepreneurship, health, food security, green energy and education, and implementing Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) programs.

  6. To advocate for enhanced Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) in for the benefit of employees, public and environment.

  7. To develop an online learning platform to deliver free Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) to the public regarding sustainable innovations, environment, HSE, WASH, entrepreneurship, health and other relevant fields.

  8. To create sound awareness to the public on issues relating to environment, climatic change, HSE, entrepreneurship, health, WASH, food security and others relevant concerns through various accessible media.

  9. To partner with stakeholders and lead agencies that may prove favourable to the Organization’s objects and;

  10. To do all such other activities as are incidental or conducive to the attainment of the Organization’s objects.

DEOGRATIUS KISITU
Executive Director/CEO

Deogratius is currently a Ph.D Candidate, pursuing Mechanical Engineering at Villanova University, USA. He holds MSc. Mechanical Engineering Degree from Villanova University, specializing in thermal energy and efficient thermal management of electronics. He is also a graduate of BSc. Mechanical Engineering from Makerere University, Uganda, with a First Class degree, with numerous noted awards. Besides, he has vast adeptness in engineering innovations and research, pertinent to the prevailing global problems. In addition, he has worked with various NGOs, and he successfully worked on several renewable-energy and safe-drinking water projects with a view to alleviating the energy-deprived and water-deficient communities.

SUZAN NANSEREKO
Director of Finance and Administration

Suzan has a BSc. Accounting and Finance from Muteesa 1 Royal University, Uganda, and she is the Head of Finance and Administration Department (FAD) at SGW. She is a professional, experienced Accountant, with solid accounting and management background, which is valuable in the management of the Organization funds. Besides, she is very adept at entrepreneurial innovations and good at women and youth networking.

CHRISTOPHER KATENDE
Director

Christopher is an American citizen and a  graduate of MSc. Occupational Safety Management at University of Central Missouri, USA, majoring in safety engineering. He has a BSc. Agricultural Engineering from Makerere University, Uganda, where he engineered a novel solution to aid in sanitation in Ugandan slums. He did his DIP. Agricultural Engineering from Busitema University, Uganda. He has worked with several NGOs and has vast experience in agricultural mechanization and production. He is the lead engineer on the project which bases on artificial inteligence (AI) to curb bird pests of rice farms in Uganda.

MIKE SSERUNJOGI

Mike is presently a Ph.D. Candidate at Purdue University, USA. He is a graduate of MSc. Agricultural Engineering at Iowa State University, USA, with research interests in post-harvest technology. He had his BSc. Agricultural Engineering from Makerere University, Uganda. He has received two international, noted awards pertinent to food security. He extensively worked with a renowned NGO called Iowa State University Uganda Program in Kamuli district, where he worked on safe water, food security and sustainable agriculture projects.

FALUKU NAKULOPA
Director

Faluku is a PhD researcher at the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research – UFZ, Germany, and he's an experienced WASH engineer, and he is the Head of Research and Innovations Department (RID) at SGW. He is a graduate of MSc. Water Resources Engineering at KU Leuven, and Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Belgium. At these Universities, Faluku was part of the BClimate research group doing climate modelling. He earned his BSc. Agricultural Engineering from Makerere University, Uganda, and excelled with a First Class degree. Since 2016, Faluku has acquired extensive expertise and field practice in water resources management. He has participated in the planning, design and management of a few irrigation, water resources and WASH projects in Uganda.

LETITIA NAMAKULA
Director

Letishia is a graduate in BA. Education from Makerere University, Uganda, and she is the Head of Communications Department (CD) at SGW. She is the Communications and Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Organisation. In addition, she has enormous experience in community training of youths with business start up ideas, which is key to social development. 

JOHN SENGENDO
Director

John is currently persuing an MBA at Kaplan Business School, Australia. He is a graduate of Bachelor of Business Admisitration (BBA) at Muteesa Royal 1 University, Uganda. He is an experienced economist and a political activist, advocating for democracy and end of corruption in Uganda. He has a strong entrepreneurial acumen. Furthermore, he is proactive in youth entrepreneurial projects, and this greatly arguments the Organization’s role in youth involvement.

ERIC MUSASIZI
Director

Eric is both a Medical Entomologist and Parasitologist, and he is the Head of Charity Affairs Department (CAD) at SGW. He is  a graduate of School of Medical Entomology and Parasitology, Mulago, Uganda. He has past, enormous experience in Malaria Entomological Surveillance Studies with Infectious Diseases Research Collaboration (IDRC), Nakasero and Vector Link PMI, Tororo.

JOYCE IMMACULATE NAKALEMBE  
Director

Joyce is a graduate and a professional cosmetologist from Malaika Institute, Uganda. She has vast experience in beauty entrepreneurship. In addition, she has been involved in several women's business innovations, which are cardinal to sustainable development in local communities. Besides, the Director is good at networking with youths for prosperity and livelihood enhancement.

HUSSEIN KALEMA
Director

Hussein is a graduate of BSc. Education in Sciences from Gulu University, Uganda. He has a high aptitude for scientific teaching and innovations, and he is passionate to train the young generation. Also, he has high adroitness in the field relating to Biotechnology, and he is very committed and experienced in implementing youth projects.
